Reading Children's Trust

Reading’s Children’s Trust brings together members of local organisations that work with children, young people and their families.

Reading has a strong Children’s Trust which has jointly delivered improvements for children in Reading in particular in educational achievement, health outcomes, youth provision and integrated preventive working.

By working in partnership, we are better able to provide the support and services required to enable all of Reading’s children and young people, whatever their background or circumstances, to achieve our Trust vision.

Our vision is to create a positive and ambitious environment for Reading children and young people so they:

  • are happy, healthy, safe and coping with change and challenge
  • are enthusiastic and skilled learners
  • value themselves and others

The Children's Trust Board meets 6 times a year to ensure that we plan together and join up the services we provide to children, young people and families.  Ultimately the Board reports to the Local Strategic Partnership, and is scrutinised by the Local Safeguarding Children's Board, to ensuring high level accountability.

The Board produces a plan each year called the Children and Young People’s Plan (CYPP), which sets out the key priorities for the Trust and how it aims to achieve them. We recently reviewed our priorities and have rewritten our CYPP.  We have seven key priorities under three themes, these are:

Keeping children safe

  • Protect and look after children and young people that need our care
  • Reduce domestic abuse and substance misuse and support families with these issues

Intervening early

  • Work with families in greatest need as early as possible to build emotional well-being and improved health
  • Help young people to have high aspirations and be healthy, active citizens, making positive life choices

Learning and ambition

  • Make sure every child and young person has a fair chance of achieving, whatever their ethnicity, disability or family income
  • Help young people improve their employment prospects
  • Help families from poverty realise their ambitions for their children and themselves

These priorities form the basis of our Children and Young People's Plan 2011-2014 which can be found via the Children & Young People's Plan page on the left. Please take a look at the plan and if you have any feedback contact the Partnership Manager (see below). The previous CYPP (2009-2012) is also available to view as a link, along with the 2011 annual review of the CYPP.
